Amy Mayfield, a Chicago-based artist, received her MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and recently exhibited in the monthly 12 x 12 New Artists/New Work series at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Mayfield is interested in juxtaposing heavy, indulgent spills of paint with delicate ink details that operate like ornamental filigree. Derived from a sinister secretive language, Mayfield’s paintings evoke a constantly shifting emotional tonality.
